Only We Know....

Matt posted a photo the other day of Caroline going into Ian's room and it just really got me. That little girl's world just changed dramatically - she got a little brother. Sunday is my little brother's birthday and it got me to thinking about what only siblings know. The bonds they share - whether they think about it or not. Only they had those parents - that childhood - that upbringing. Only they experienced that Mom and Dad's style of love and discipline. Brothers and sister share things that no one else in the world ever will. John, do you realize....

• Only we know what it was like to wait for Dad to check and see "if Santa came".

• Only we know what an awesome Star Wars sand dune there was on the side of the house on Allenwood or how scary that left turn onto the highway was to get to school in the morning when we were just learning to drive.

• Only we know what it was like to ride to Marsha's for a haircut and a sack of garage sale "treasures". Okay, maybe we're not the only ones to really know the "Connie & Marsha Mother Team", but we're the only ones to know it from the "going home with Connie side".

• We're the only ones who know how great your little bed was for reading Gus and Lyle and how it could instantly be a garage to "fix the car like Dad".

• We're the only ones to know the greatness of Mom's Christmas stockings or how much syrup it really took to make her Mother's Day breakfast.

• We’re the only ones who know just how hard it was not to fight on that long ride to Brady or how it felt to have a tummy full of junk food on that weaving road home from Lewisville on Friday nights.

• Only we know how it all really went down when the door closed and it was just us and the babysitter.

• Only we know just how thin the bedroom walls were and what it was like to lie right up next to it and talk through it at night or if we were in trouble.

I'm glad that you were there to share those things and so much more growing up. I hope you have a good weekend and a VERY Happy Birthday on Sunday. Love you. -Your Big Sister

So true! The gift of siblings, besides someone to play with and love you no matter what, is someone who KNOWS what it's like. I printed this out for John, he will love it!
