Friday

FRIDAY NIGHT 7:45pm
So far we still have power. Watching Netflix. Here's what it looks like outside:

FRIDAY NIGHT 6:15pm
The storm is approaching. I am turning off the computer. We are getting everything ready and turning in to watch tv until we lose power.  40-70mph winds have been predicted. Not sure where they will actually fall. They are saying 30% might lose power. Snow fall of 1-4 inches per hour over night until about 2:00 Saturday afternoon. Could be a really big storm. Could be historic.  Won't know until the morning.

If we have power, I'll post morning snowfall photos - promise.  If we don't I'll take them and try to post them Monday.

Love you all - wish I was in Texas! :)

FRIDAY AFTERNOON 2:00pm
We are home and settled in. The snow is coming down steady now, but the "real" storm, including the high winds and thundersnow, isn't here yet.  I am enjoying my last few hours of power as everyone seems certain we will be without soon enough. I have a pot of pork green chili simmering on the stove. One last hot meal. The plan is to eat early, grab a shower and run the dishwasher one last time.

Here's the news now:

Connecticut
  • Governor declares State of Emergency. Expect limited access to highways for the duration of the storm.
  • All flights out of Bradley International Airport were cancelled after 1:30 p.m. Friday.
  • There were reports of gas stations running low or out of gasoline.
  • Accumulations of 1 to 2 feet of snow are possible, with some areas getting more.
  • Roadways had become slick and several traffic accidents were reported Friday morning around Hartford.
  • A parking ban is in effect in Hartford. Police will tow any vehicle parked on a city street.
  • Snow will wind down on Saturday, but it will remain windy.
  • Out-of-state utility crews are moving in to help.
  • Connecticut Light & Power employees are setting up in pre-staged locations across the state so they can be deployed quickly.
  • State police and state DOT are asking people to stay off the roads during the storm.

Tonight: Blizzard conditions are likely with heavy snowfall rates of 1-3" per hour combined with wind gusts to over 50 mph.  The wind will cause considerable blowing and drifting of snow.
Low: 25-30.

FRIDAY MORNING 7:00am
Nothing here yet. David is graciously taking me in to work today so that he can drive me home. He doesn't  have to go in today.  Best husband ever! :) We plan to take a half day and get home before the afternoon storm hits. Right now they are saying between 2-4pm.  Tonight will be the big snow, wind, etc.

We shopped last night for things that we could eat for a few days that don't require cooking. (Basically lots of sandwich stuff, caprese salad and snacks.) We have everything clean, charged and easily accessible.

I'm off to wash my hair yet again this morning - just in case.

I think we are ready! I'll keep you posted.  Hopefully photos to follow tonight or tomorrow.  We'll see!
