Coronavirus (COVID-19) Chronicles

Interesting days ... interesting days! We have been hearing about the Corona virus for weeks now.  Talking, speculating, and preparing. Hand sanitizer is at a premium, toilet paper is hard to find.  Grocery store shelves are bare in places and fully stocked in others. Bars, clubs, gyms, casinos, theaters and more are closed. Restaurants are take out only. Churches are closed! Lots of on-line streaming. No one should gather with more than 10 people at a time.

I've been working with our IT people to make sure we are prepared if we all need to work from home. Our computers can be taken home, phones forwarded and all programs accessed. For now, our office is open and while traffic is light, it is busy in our little building. No companies have shut down here yet. David is working from home for the foreseeable future. Evan is out of school for the year. All Spring activities, including flying home in April, for dad's 75th birthday are most likely cancelled.  Although I can't bring myself to cancel the ticket quite yet.

We have boxes of pasta in the pantry and sauce in the freezer. We have frozen meats and canned beans in case we are told to stay in at all cost. We have soap and toothpaste and all the household needs for now. We are not hoarding and don't have excess of anything, but we have everything we need. We still have employment and the salaries and benefits that go with work. ...As for our 401K's ... we won't think about that today. We are safe and so far we are healthy. I don't know anyone personally who has been infected as of today.

It's hard being so far away from Texas.  I can't think about that too hard or I'll crash. I have to keep those feeling stuffed far down for now. I've had little mini breakdowns from time to time, but so far I can quickly stuff those feelings down knowing it won't do any good to dwell in that now. There's nothing I can do.

The future is a little uncertain. How many are now and will become sick. How will the cities fair?  What will this do to the economy and the election in November? I'd take a snow storm over this any day of the week. This may get me back into posting .... I'm feeling the need to document the upcoming days.

Looking for things to be grateful for and people to help.

A personal favorite passage: MATTHEW 6:25-34. Feels like to me it was written for this time.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
