Evan's Birthday Party
Evan turned 11 this weekend.....and I wish with all my heart that Wendy had a blog of her own to tell her version of the story. I certainly can't speak for her, but when David called on Saturday morning to let me know the plan, I thought "there's a blog entry!". I'm sure you moms with little ones will understand.... The weather this summer has been awful.....just no way around it. We've had a handful of gorgeous days and the rest have been cloudy, rainy, muggy and humid. Knowing this, Wendy put on the invitations that the party was Saturday and the rain date would be Sunday. It rained on Friday....it was raining on Saturday morning. They had to decide whether or not to cancel the giant obstacle course......delay the party....etc. Would it rain worse on Sunday? What was the smartest call. They had to go back and forth with the obstacle course company.....long story short....they cancelled one course and rented from another company. (It cleared up somewhat and they went with Saturday.....just a sprinkle here or there....enough to make you nervous and crazy that it was about to pour, but thankfully it never really did.) It was humid as all get out though......like New Orleans hot and muggy....
Wendy's husband, Eric's back went out. So he was on medication and wasn't able to lift much and had to spend a lot time in bed. She has an energetic three year old to look after. Her baby, Jameson, was running a 102 fever because he was cutting teeth and he just wanted his mommy! Wendy was making the cake that morning. She had signs and stations to put in the yard....balloons to blow up....obstacle course being delivered....family and friends coming over....needing to shower and get dressed. When I walked in the front door, she had an overwhelmed looked that I'd never seen on her before. (She's usually so laid back!) "Give me a job" I said. "Balloons" she said and after setting me up, went back to the cake. David went out and put up the water slide. An hour later, things were clicking....the signs were up, the stations were ready, the cake was darling, Jameson was happy, the kids were running around outside, Wendy ran up to take a shower and the party started. It was a great day...the kids had a really fun time.
The obstacle course was the first thing that you really saw when you came in the front yard. It was HUGE!
Wendy made signs to mark each station. There were hula hoops, jarts, water guns, balloon rockets and hats, giant bubble wands.....all sorts of things for the kids to do! Note to all scrapbookers: She made the letters and designs with The Cricket. Have you seen this commercial on tv at 4:00 in the morning? It looked so professional and so custom and so easy to do! Amazing! The photos don't do justice to just how cute they were. She did each one (and there were TONS of them) so cute. They made the yard look so festive!
Bubble Wands:
The water slide was the biggest hit as it was so hot out.....the grown-ups sat and watched with envy as the kids cooled off.
The pool with the water guns was a fun station for the kids too.
Everyone had a great time. There was family from all sides, friends, neighbors, kids from Evan's school. It was quite the get together.
We had fun with the balloons. Wendy bought these rocket balloons that you blow up and release and they fly up really high. The dads and the little boys loved them! (I think the dads were having the most fun with them.) I made a few animals and things and David made a jester hat.
We tried to get Jameson to wear it.
He wouldn't, so Wendy did.
Not to be outdone, Olivia wanted in on the action.
We even got Evan to wear it!
The cake was SO CUTE! Wendy did a great job.
And, of course there were presents! The cards that played music seems to be a big hit.
He got books and gift cards, transformers and Iron Man....all kinds of good gifts!
It turned out to be a great day and Evan had a very memorable 11th birthday. Wendy threw quite a party!
