An American Saturday Night

Saturday night David and I went back out to the Mohegan Sun Casino for burgers and country music.....something I doubt David did before I moved up here....but nonetheless, it's becoming our thing.  It was Brad Paisley's American Saturday Night Tour and it was GOOD!  But I'm getting ahead of myself.

This was an Evan weekend, so we dropped Evan off at Wendy and Eric's and headed out to the casino about 4:30ish.  We made a stop in Colchester for Starbucks (it was going to be a long night) and headed on to the casino in Uncasville.  The casino has approximately 32 places to eat from casual buffets to restaurants like Michael Jordan's Steakhouse and everything in between.  But since the opening of Bobby's Burger Palace, we always eat at the same place.  The combination of ease, lower costs and great fries just make it a no-brainer.  Between the two of us we've tried every burger on the menu we are willing to try, except one, so we will have to go back at least once more.  (I have to pass on the Classic Burger (too plain) the Blue Cheese (yuck!), Buffalo (wing sauce) and Miami (which is really ham)).  So far, David is sticking with the Dallas Burger (BBQ Sauce, coleslaw and monterey) and I'm digging the LA Burger (avocado, watercress, tomato and cheddar!  YUM!)  We never veer from the sweet potato fries even though I am dying to try the regular and the onion rings and we never share! ;)

Then off to the concert. It was a triple billing:  Jimmy Wayne, Dierks Bentley and Brad Paisley.  A real boy's club! I wanted to see them all, so we got to our seats early and waited for Jimmy to take the stage. I fell in love with the song Gone years ago and have liked him ever since.    (If you don't know the song and want to hear it, you can click here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jChC1WVHlCU)

Jimmy Wayne Sign

A few songs in Jimmy went out to the middle of the runway to sing.  When the spotlight hit him there was a bright feather boa on the microphone.  "I've been pranked", he announced.  We all laughed and on with the show.

Feather Boa

As he was wrapping up, he mentioned something about this being his last show. I turned to David "Good thing you got tickets now! We might have missed him!"  They cycle the first act in and out quite a bit, so we didn't think much of it except for being grateful to see him.  Act over and set up for Dierks.

When he was being introduced  a video came on the screen, announcing "Dierks Bentley - Hair Club for Men" followed by a short clip making fun of those famous locks.  We laughed again.....they must be big on pranks on this tour!  Dierks mentioned something about being his last night.....David and I started searching on his blackberry....was it the end of the tour??  Dierks was great, but didn't sing the song I was waiting for:  Trying to Stop Your Leaving.   After some more comments and googling we realized this was the last night of the tour!

Dierk

Before we knew what was happening the entire Jimmy Wayne band was out on the stage behind Dierks.  Was that Jimmy running across the back of the stage in t-shirt and underwear?  I think it was!! ;)  We laughed.  What a show!  They chased Dierks around the stage and  cracked him up.

Next up Brad.

 Brad Singing

He came out and said "It's the end of the tour. Tomorrow I'm out of a gig, so we are gonna sing until they kick us out!"  And he meant it too!  They sang and sang and SANG!  The concert went until about 11:30 or so.  No pranks on Brad, but they all three came out at the end and sang together.

Full Stage

The energy was great! They were talking and laughing and having a GREAT time!  If you get a chance to see a show on last night of the tour....go for it!  It was SO FUN!  No mailing it in and going through the motions for any of them....

On Ledge2

It was a great night! I took a video of Brad singing Welcome To The Future. If you want to check it out, click here:  http://kimberlys-ride.blogspot.com/
