Evan "The Magnificent" Oakes
Last night we went to a program at Evan's school. It was called United Theatre. The middle school drama team paired up with buddies from the special needs department and after just six weeks of rehearsal they put on a really great show.
It was funny, fast paced, and really entertaining. They had music, dancing, improve and even magic! Evan was in just about every performance, but his main number was a magic act right in the middle of the show. we thought he was the star of the whole thing. Here are a few photos that I took:
And the magic tricks! For his first trick, he put numerous solid color scarves into the hat and pulled out one that was a colorful butterfly. (We learned later that this was the first time that they put in the butterfly scarf, so it surprised even Evan!)
The main trick was a little more comedic and complicated. They brought out a large tent like box and two girls climbed into it. Evan was suppose to make them disappear. But the first time it didn't work, so his assistant brought him out a larger wand. He tried again. Failure, so the assistant brought out a bigger wand ... so on and so on. Evan was really good. He was hamming it up each time is didn't works. Finally after several wands, they brought out a giant one and the trick worked. It was really cute. He had the audience cracking up.
Hopefully I got enough photos that you can get the idea:
After it was over everyone mingled and got photos and they had refreshments in the school lunchroom. I think Evan had a great time. He spent most of the time talking to the girls. ha.
This was the head theatre teacher. He really did a great job. It was so fun to watch all the kids have a great time. They were stars. Evan even got to give out an autograph.
