Drama In The Basement - Well, Not Really
1. It was Friday afternoon and I was home. David was home shortly after. It didn't go out when we were both traveling earlier in the month or the week that David was on vacation (which would have been typical for that week). I knew to turn the water off, after the other floods, and the bathroom was safe and dry.
2. I had taken a shower about 20 minutes before it went out, so I was fresh for another 24 hours.
3. I was just cleaning the bathroom, so the cleaning chemicals helped eliminate horrible sewer smells while David was down there looking at it. That smell has been 1/2 the drama in the past. With the addition of a little bleach, the basement has stayed relatively odor free.
4. There were no dramatics. No yelling. No tears. No fighting. David and I have been married long enough that we have things like this down now. We know what to do. And the bathroom drama is old hat. We know the drill. I started emptying the water in shower that had bubbled up by carrying bowl after bowl of water from the shower to the kitchen sink. David talked to the plumbing company. The plumber was out early Saturday.
It was easy.
I guess.
We have power outages and snow storms and flooding basement bathrooms down now. Which is nice. But a little daunting to think about what our next "learning lesson" will be.
The plumber thought it would be about $1,800 to replace, so David called the manufacturer and they said it might be a matter of a $52 part. We'll see! I certainly hope so. If it was suppose to be a life lesson, I think we passed. Maybe we can get away with a $52 resolution. Hopefully our next life lesson won't include a $1,800 bill! I'll keep you posted.
