Haley's Trip Day 1 & 2
Haley flew in on Thursday night and we had dinner at Firebox in Hartford before we went home. Since half the fun of vacationing is eating out, we plan to take Haley to some of our favorite places. Firebox is my VERY favorite restaurant in the Hartford area. Almost everything is local from the meat to produce to cheese .... and the menu changes all the time. Here's what we had:
Haley had:
FALL SQUASH SOUP apples, bacon, creme fraiche, chives
ORGANIC GREENS honeycrisp apples, easter egg radish, pickled fennel, toasted marcona almonds, red wine & honey vinaigrette
David had:
POTATO LEEK SOUP Garlic Crouton, Bacon, Scallion
BLACK PEARL SALMON farro & cabbage, butternut puree, oyster mushrooms, brussels sprout leaves, pomegranate
FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE Almond Butter, Whipped Creme Fraiche, Blueberry Coulis
I had:
FALL SQUASH SOUP apples, bacon, creme fraiche, chives
LAMB RAGOUT Bucatini Pasta, Goat Cheese Feta, Slow Poached Egg
Haley and I split:
J. FOSTER ICE SEASONAL ICE CREAM Fig, vanilla, and pumpkin ice cream, peach puree, poppy lace cookie
Then we were home and after a little visiting off to bed relatively early. (Well, 10:00 which seemed SO LATE to me as I was the only one that had to get up. But early to Haley I'm sure.)
Friday morning I had to get up and go to work, so David and Haley got the spend the day running around. It was a gorgeous day in Connecticut. Sunny. Mid-70's. Just a perfect day to run around exploring.
They went to Mystic and had a lobster lunch at AZU.
Then it was off on an adventure! The Essex Steam Train & Riverboat Ride.
Got a text from Haley that the car they were in was borrowed for George Clooney & Co. for Leatherheads in 2002 and the next car over was used in Indiana Jones 4. They are riding in style!
Here was the view from the train:
