Haley's Trip Day 3
Haley and I set out to do some of the 2014 Fall "things not to miss" in Yankee Magazine. Our first stop was The Garlic Farm in West Granby, CT. They grow only one kind of garlic, a hardnecked variety called German White. This just happens to be the kind of garlic that Haley had been looking for. It's harvested July through mid-October, so we were hoping they had some left. When we got there, this is what we found:
The Granby Asrtist Association was having their Our 13th Annual Open Studio Tour this weekend, so we stopped at Honey Hill Pottery. Haley picked up several small things. I got a bird feeder and a bowl. We didn't get any photos at this place though. Sorry about that.
We stopped at Granby library so I could go to the bathroom and Haley got to chatting with the librarian assistant. She had a son in Plano. Small world! We had lunch at Starbucks .... due to a lack of anything interesting. And then decided to complete the Yankee magazine article and head out to the Riverton/Goshen. On our way to Riverton, we stopped at the Saville Dam, on the Farmington River southwest of Barkhamsted, CT.
We drove through People's State Park ... and it was a GORGEOUS drive. Amazing colors. Then stopped in Riverton. We went to see the glass blower, but he was closed. So we walked around town and saw what was open.
After Riverton we decided to head back. We stopped at Whole Foods on the way home and got whole fish, green beans, sweet potatoes and making for a cheese plate for dinner. I forgot crackers, so Haley made us homemade crackers. They were so good we ate and ate on the cheese plate with our October pears and weren't hungry for dinner. We ate the fish because they would be wasted and saved the rest for another day. We all turned in to get ready for Haley's Day #4 .... a big adventure in New York City!
