A Day In The Hamptons

We decided to take a day trip on Saturday to Long Island, so we loaded up the car at 6:30am and headed out to catch the Cross Sound Ferry in New London, CT.

The ferry was about an hour and a half ride over to to Orient Point, NY.

Our first destination was the beach, but we had to stop at The Big Duck in Flanders, NY on the way.

We got to Coopers Beach in Southampton around 11:00. It was a gorgeous day ... blue skies! CNN had named Coopers Beach one of the top ten beaches in the US, so we wanted to see it for ourselves. It was a white sandy beach, not too crowded, with crashing waves. It really was just a perfect beach. We had lunch at the clubhouse and sat out by the water for a few hours.

David loved it. He could have stayed all day.

I was FREEZING!  The wind cut through you like a knife. It didn't bother the true beach goers I guess. There was kids and people in bathing suits. But I was fully dressed, a jacket and two towels and I was cold to my bones.

We drove down Dune Road in East Quogue trying to see Eli Manning's summer house. I'm sure we saw it, but we weren't sure which one was actually his. It was a millionaire's view .... a perfect place out of the way of the public to have a vacation home.

We stopped an bought fresh spring asparagus at three different farm stands and went to Bedell Cellars Vineyards.

Then we and had a lovely dinner at North Fork Table and Inn. We had the cheese plate to start. David had the Long Island Fluke and I had steak tartare and salad. For dessert, I had the phyllo napoleon with catapano sweet cream, rhubarb, pistachios and lychee sorbet. David had the chocolate caramel tart with salted caramel ice cream ... which seemed to not have any sugar in the entire dish. It was dark bitter chocolate with a dark bitter caramel.  Fortunately he'd picked up a crumb cake at one of the farm stands! But it was nice to sit and have a relaxing dinner before we got back to the ferry.

We got back to the ferry a little early and caught the 8:00pm back. We were home and in bed by 10:30pm. It was a long, but very nice day. A day trips for the books!
