Kent, CT

Yankee Magazine wrote an article naming Kent, CT the top place to see foliage in New England, so of course, I wanted to check it out. Saturday morning we got up and drove the hour and a half northwest into Litchfield County, up near The Cornwall Bridge and into Kent. Truth is, the leaves aren't all that amazing this year. It was a hot summer so a lot of the leaves are going to brown quickly. On top of that, we had two days prior of heavy wind and rain to knock most of the loose leaves to the ground. So, seeing vivid bright red and orange foliage wasn't possible, but we discovered a darling little town and will go back next year and try the foliage views again. I'll share a few photos that we took. Here's a church in Warren, CT on the way:

Kent was a town full of galleries, small shops and restaurants.  There were sculptures everywhere.  Here are a few we saw. I put more on Facebook if you want to see them all. Giant swans:

This was a tiny rat on the end of a bench outside a shop:

There was a garden outside a gallery with these big slate rocks layered to make all  sorts of people. They were really cool:

This dog was on a bench outside a kid's clothing store.  We were taking a photo when this guy walked over and said "Do you have a lab?" Come to find out, he made the sculpture. It's one of his dogs. We talked to him for a few minutes.  Interesting place.

There were birds everywhere.  Large and small.

We walked around and took the place in. There was a farmer's market, a book sale outside the library and all sorts of shops and restaurants. After looking around we decided to grab lunch and head to Kent Falls for a picnic and more photos. We stopped in a tiny little place and grabbed a BLT for David and a salad for me.  We headed north toward the falls.  We pulled in only to find that parking was $9 cash and we didn’t have cash on us.  We were told there was nowhere else to park and we were out of luck. So, we turned around and back up from where we came. We pulled into the next road and started down a path that was more and more rural all the time. There were walkers on the leave-covered street, but we were the only car. We kept driving and driving, winding up the mountain until we stumbled upon a place to park. It would only hold about 3 or 4 cars, but there was room for us. We pulled in and got out and walked to the falls.  David got such a kick out of “free place to park”.  Here’s a few of the photos that he took:

October is looking like it will be a busy month, so hopefully there will be lots of blog stories and  good photos to share! Sorry for the lack of blogging this past month.
