Saturday

Saturday 2:30pm
The storm is finally over. Here are a few more photos.  The official count on the back deck was 44" but it was higher in some parts.

Instead of the usual plows, they sent a John Deere tractor to clear the roads.

(I tried to get a video for my nephews but I guess I didn't do it right. Just got  photos. Sorry. It was quite a sight to see - especially through the  eyes of little boys. There were snow blowers going and the tractor beeping and moving snow. They would have loved it.  Especially from the "fort like" trail above.)

Saturday 12:00noon
We interrupt this snow storm for lunch: Pork green chili. This was SO good! I really liked it. It was a tad spicy for David, so if you have people who don't care for spice, might not be for them.

I roasted 2 lbs of tomatillos and 3 poblano peppers in the oven for 15 minutes at 425. Then pureed them in the blender with about a cup of water.

I cubed about a pound of pork and tossed  it in cornstarch, salt, pepper, 2 Tlb corriander and 2 Tlb cumin.  Then I browned the  cubes in olive oil and put them aside.

I cooked one diced red onion and one diced white onion and 5 garlic cloves until the onions were soft.

Into a soup pot I added:
  • the browned pork
  • the onion mixture
  • the tomatillo and poblano mixture
  • 1 can mild rotel (you could add more spice here with roasted jalapenos or a spicier rotel)
  • 1 quart chicken stock
  • 2 more tablespoons of corriander and cumin
  • salt and pepper
  • several tablespoons of fresh oregano

And cooked it on the lowest setting for several hours. Delicious! Great for a cold day.  The warm soup with a hint of spice was perfect!

Saturday 9:30am
Still snowing here! A view from the back window:

And a view from the garage in front. We are up to 32" there now. About 2" an hour.

It seems the neighbors to our right have more in their yard. Must be the way the wind blew last night.  Theirs seems like about 5' at the highest point.
Our house has snow up past the window sills:
David had to walk around to the back of the house to clear out the pipes. They have been warning people on the news all morning about carbon monoxide poisoning. He said it was pretty close to being covered up.  Good thing he went and cleaned it out! You can see the path. He  said it was up to his waist.
And a little shoveling - since he was out there. Look how tall that snow is!  Wow! He said it was fluffy snow though so not as heavy as a real wet snow.
There will be plenty of time for shoveling later on today.  Besides, it's STILL snowing!

Saturday 7:30am
Here are a few photos. Remember the photo I posted last night?  Here is how the deck looks this morning:

There was about 28"-29" when we opened the garage door.  More snow is falling. And David shoveled that area last night before bed, so it would have probably been higher.  We are easily looking at 3 feet of snow before it's  all said and done.

In case you think it looks calm, it's still really snowing:

Saturday 6:30am
We have power!!  We got up about 5:00am and watched the news. I'm waiting for the sun to come up so I can get some photos before everyone gets out and starts plowing.  Looks like David's car is completely covered.  Most snow I've seen.  Feet and feet of perfect white snow!  Just so glad we have POWER!!
